Given as Rev. John Hendrickson Lawrence in the compensation records. Clergyman, apparently resident, awarded the compensation for three enslaved people under three separate claims on Nevis and also claimed unsuccessfully with William Lawrence [sic] as trustees and executors of Samuel Lawrence [sic] for the compensation for the enslaved people on two separate awards for the Hanley's estate and for Clifton's, Paynes and Morton Bay on Nevis.
1st son of Samuel Laurence of Nevis. Matriculated Exeter College Oxford 18/05/1820 aged 18, BA 1824.
Rev. John Hendrickson Laurence, late rector of this parish [St Thomas Lowland, Nevis], died 19/10/1836 aged 35.
Rev. Laurence was a subscriber to the St. Christopher Branch of the Society for the Conversion and Religious Instruction and Education of the Negro Slaves in the British West India Islands.
