Owner of Orange Hill estate, Jamaica, for which the compensation was awarded to John M'Cubbin (q.v.) and Gilbert M'Nab (q.v.), his executors.
From a monumental inscription in Dalry Cemetery, Kirkudbrightshire: "James Fauld Esq. of Orangehill Jamaica died at Wheatfield near Ayr in 1826 age 63". From Old Parish Records in Ayr: "James Foulds Esqr from Jamaica", age 57, buried 01/06/1826.
There was a James Foulds living at Newton on Ayr in the 1851 census, age 44, Annuitant, born Jamaica, with his wife Agness, and then at Newton on Ayr again in 1861, age 52, portioner, born Jamaica, and at 62 Abbotsford Place, Govan, Glasgow, in 1871. He died 19/03/1884 age 77 and from his death certificate, his parents were Samuel Foulds, sugar planter, and Christina O'Brien.
Samuel Foulds registered slaves as attorney for James Foulds in St Thomas-in-the-East in 1817 and 1826.
