Son of Sir Francis Ford 1st bart (15 November 1758-17 June 1801) of Lears, St. Thomas, Barbados and Ember Court, Surrey. (He died in Barbados.) His mother was Mary Anson (1759-20 January 1837) of Shugborough, Colwich, Staffordshire. She died in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. (The parents were married 22 January 1785.) Children: 1. Mary (? - 9 March 1842; died in Torquay, Devon). She married (29 May 1840) Sir William Lionel Darell, Bt., (1817-1883) (the son of Sir Harry Verelst Darell, Bt. [1768-1828], Bengal merchant and Commercial Resident of the East India Company, Eatwah and Calpu, and Isabella Tullie [?-1800]); 2. Eliza Caroline (d. 1879), married Lt.-Col. Christopher Simpson Maling; 3. Anna Maria (d. 1881), married General Sir David Scott Dodgson, Indian Army; 4. Sir Francis John, Bt. (14 Aug 1818- 26 Nov 1850), married Cronelia Maria, daughter of General Sir Ralph Darling; 5. William (1821-1905), ICS, married Catherine Margaret, daughter Major-General John Anthony Hodgson; 6. St. Clair St. Clair-Ford (1830-1896), Indian Army, married Eliza Jane, daughter Thomas Smalley Potter. Resided at Zeelugt House, Cheltenham (see entry for Samuel Brandford Cox) for fifty years.
Although Ford was born and died in England, a death notice described him as 'of Barbados'. (He died at his home in Cheltenham after 8 years of 'a severe and painful illness'.)

Francis Ford figured in the painting by Sir William Beechey, Portrait of Sir Francis Ford's Children Giving a Coin to a Beggar Boy (exhibited 1793). The girl is his sister Mary (d. 1872). The two children also appeared in a miniature (c. 1790) by Samuel Shelley.
