William Stewart Hamilton

The evidence of the name of the partner in W. S. Hamilton & Co., of Dublin in 1847-8 suggests that this is William Stewart Hamilton of Brown Hall, County Donegal, who married (1) Hon. Henrietta Blackwood, daughter of Hans Blackwood 3rd Baron Dufferin and Claneboye and Mehatebel Temple, 1807 and (2) Sophia Forde (née Blacker) in 1818.

1. A William Stewart Hamilton of Dublin had possession of wines and spirits of a bankrupt Bristol concern of John Tripp and John Dyer in 1813.  

2. W. S. Hamilton & Co. (q.v.), Dublin, West India Trade, failed December 1847-8, when one of its two partners was Hans Blackwood Hamilton.

3. Will of William Stewart Hamilton of Grenville Street Dublin Co. Dublin proved 22/09/1836. The will details his assets, those that are legible largely insurance policies and advances secured on property in Ireland as well as shares in the Leeds & Liverpool Railroad, totalling by his account £18,000, which he left between his three sons John, [Hans] Blackwood and Abr[aha]m Hamilton. The will appears to make no reference to West India property.
