Abraham Garnett

Given as Abraham Garrett in the Parliamentary Papers, co-claimant with his father-in-law Thomas Mewburn (q.v.) for the compensation for Cumings Lodge in British Guiana. Shown as awardee but there is evidence of mercantile interception by Hall M'Garel. Originally a Liverpool merchant but apparently after successive bankruptcies rebuilt his fortune in British Guiana post-Emancipation, dying there in 1864.

  1. Marriage of Abraham Garnett and Anne Mewburn, Liverpool 30/11/1816. The Anne Mewburn Garnett spinster who died 01/11/1929 at Liverpool leaving £1009 0s 6d, and who had been in 1911 living aged 62 with her father Philip Frederic Garnett aged 88 solicitor (born St Michael's Hamlet near Liverpool) and other family members, was a grandchild.

  2. Abraham Garnett was shown as a partner in the Liverpool firm of James Willasey and Co. (q.v.) until its dissolution on 31/12/1811; Abraham Garnett of Liverpool was bankrupted in 1815. Abraham Garnett was shown as a partner with William Davidson at Liverpool and London until the dissolution of that partnership in 1822; Abraham Garnett the former partner of Williams Davidson was [again] bankrupt in March 1822, followed shortly by the firm itself.
