Robert William Gordon was eldest surviving son of Robert Gordon and grandson of Bristol Alderman Robert Gordon of Auchendolly. He married Elizabeth Gordon of Montego Bay in 1835; and Adelia Emans of Fishbill, New York. He died on 3 December 1885, at Lyndhurst Villa, Campbell Road, Southsea, in his 85th year.
The proximity of his cousin George Gordon at Moor Park, St James, supports the identification of this person as the R. W. Gordon enslaver of several people in St James in 1832.
