Partner with William Pitcairn (q.v.) in the compensation records under the name Pitcairn & Amos (q.v.).

Identified as the John Amos formerly merchant gentleman of 12 Chatham Place Hackney [formerly of Tokenhouse Yard and Copthall Buildings and lately of Acton Place Kingsland Road] whose will was proved 15/03/1855. The will deals only with property in the City and in the Home Counties. The entry in the 1851 census for him at Chatham Place gives him as aged 69 'Retired merchant and fundholder' living with wife Selina aged 60 and daughter, also Selina (aged 17), all born London.
