In 1867 the Kingston Gleaner carried an elliptical report of Cooke: 'The Rev. Stephen Hope Cook for many years Rector of the Parish of St Thomas in the East, (now known as St. Thomas) has returned to the Island but we understand the Government will find employment in some other Parish than St. Thomas for the Rev. Gentleman. which must be very agreeable to his feelings as it will tend to efface much of what otherwise would be perpetuated in the Parish.'
T71/852 St Catherine no. 349. Frances Virgo Brooks St Catherine = owner-in-fee for 6 slaves and tenant for life as to 55; reversionary interest in the 55 claimed by Stephen Hope Cooke and Mary Elizabeth Cooke, his wife. Brooks then claimed for all 61 as tenant for life only.
