Biography

Resident in Jamaica, but in London in the mid-1830s and then in the US, wife of John Stannard Hylton and widow of John Henry Morris the former owner of Kensington estate in St James Jamaica, for which Mary Susannah Hylton and her new husband were awarded compensation: they were also among the beneficiaries of an award made to trustees for the Caen Wood estate in Manchester.

  1. Mary Susannah Frey Lawrence, daughter of Richard Brisset Lawrence and his wife Mary Susannah, born 09/06/1822 and baptised 25/07/1822 in St James.

  2. George Gordon, Lieut., 92nd Regt., and Mary Susanna Lawrence, widow, both of St James, were married at Kensington in that parish, 10/05/1824.

  3. Baptism of Frances Blanche, daughter of John Stannard and Mary Susanna Hylton of Queen Square at St Pancras Camden 25/09/1835. Her date of birth was given as 27/08/1835.

  4. 'Late of Kensington, Jamaica, but then of Philadelphia, USA' in 1840.

  5. Genealogical sites suggest her maiden name was Fry, that she was born in Jamaica to John Fry formerly of Morants Court Chevening in Kent, and that she had married twice (to Brissett Lawrence and George Gorden or Gordon) before her marriage to John Henry Morris.
