Richard Brickdale Ward

Solicitor in Bristol, trustee and mortgagee with Jeremiah Osborne (q.v.) on the Hope estate in St Vincent.

1. Married Jane Vie Ridout 27/02/1812 at Bristol; in 1851 Richard Brickdale Ward retired solicitor born Bristol St Augustine was living at 8 Down (or Downside ) House with daughter Elizabeth Emily aged 22, sister-in-law Mary Randolph Ridout (aged 61) and a nephew, a civil engineer; will of Richard Brickdale Ward gentleman of Bristol Gloucestershire proved 19/05/1853.

2. In 1821, N. Bassnett Cropper wrote from St Vincent to Richard B. Ward enclosing a copy of the will of Francis William Ward, who had recently died, leaving his estate to his wife Catherine, with his executors being Nathaniel Bassnett Cropper, his brother Richard Brickdale Ward and his wife Catherine. Cropper's cover note said that 'the Estate having furnished every thing in the household line' Francis William Ward left little of his own property, 40 sheep, 6 or 7 horned cattle and three negroes ('these last by island law are are real estate'), 'which you will no doubt find advantageous to take at an appraised value for the benefit of the Hope estate.' A Mr Harris had stepped in to oversee the Hope estate. It could be inferred that Francis William Ward was until his death manager of the Hope estate on behalf of his brother. Catherine Ward returned to Britain after her husband's death and was in Bristol in August 1821 and in London to prove the will with Richard Brickdale Ward in September 1821.
