Partner in with George Burrow (q.v.) in Burrows and Nottage (q.v.) merchants of Lancaster. Probably = Alderman of Lancaster. Quaker.
George Burrow failed, apparently after Nottage's death.
1841 census shows James Barton Nottage merchant aged 55 at Caton, Lancaster with wife Jane. Probably died Lancaster Q1 1845 although there is another James Barton Nottage shown dying in Liverpool in 1842.
James Barton Nottage was disowned by the Quakers in 1803 at eighteen years of age for accepting being balloted to join a militia. He was not readmitted. He married, his children were baptised, and his death is recorded in the records of St Mary’s Church Lancaster, which states he was Church of England at the time of his death.
