Glasgow merchant, partner in Robert Eccles & Co., then Eccles Burnley & Co., given as George Eccles. He has not been further traced with confidence. George James Eccles (1817-1849), son of James Eccles (q.v.) and brother of William Eccles jun. (q.v.) and partner in the family firms on their collapse in 1848, would have been very young, but not impossibly so, to have been a partner in 1836 and 1837.
