Awarded part of the compensation for the Dunbarton [sic] estate in St Ann Jamaica, with her husband John Fairful Smith (q.v.).
Caroline Cydippe Smith Turner was born on 05/10/1808 and baptised 14/10/1808 in Clarendon, Jamaica, the daughter of Dutton Smith Turner and his wife Mary Gale Turner née Redwar (q.v.). Her mother was the daughter of Henry Redwar, owner of Dunbarton estate, and the neice of William Gale Redwar (q.v.).
Her brother Edward Turner (q.v.) was an eminent chemist: he was a lecturer in Chemistry at Edinburgh University between 1824 and 1827 and 'collected around him the remaining unsettled members of his family - a clever boy and four young, handsome and accomplished sisters'.
Marriage at St Pancras, London 12/06/1830 of John Fairfull [sic] Smith WS of Edinburgh and Caroline, 3rd daughter of the late Dutton Smith Turner of Clarendon Jamaica.
Caroline and John had two children born and baptised in Edinburgh: John George (1833) and Edward Turner (1835).
