16th Sep 1786 - 1856
Born 16/09/1786 and baptised 01/10/1786 in St Michael, Barbados, son of John Cutting and Sarah Alice his wife. John Henry Cutting married Mary Elvira Williams 06/12/1824 in St Michael, Barbados. Their son John Henry daughter Sarah Margaret were baptised in Barbados in 1827 and 1828, two subsequent children Margaret Elizabeth Alice and John Henry were baptised in Bristol, England, in 1838 and 1840. A fourth child, Malvina Elvira, was baptised in St Michael, Barbados in 1844. Later census records show the three surviving children spent their adult lives in England.
Cutting purchased the Clifton estate in St Thomas from Margaret Elizabeth Williams at some point between 1817 and 1820. She was possibly an in-law of Cutting as he married a woman with the surname Williams and they had a daughter named Margaret Elizabeth. However, this has not been proven from parish registers.
John Henry himself has not been identified in the English census records in 1841 or 1851. John Henry Cutting, age 69 years, of 16 Devonshire Terrace, Notting Hill, was buried at Kensal Green Cemetery in London, 05/04/1856. In 1861 his widow Mary Cutting, age 53, occupation given as "Lady", born Barbados, was living at 10 Brunswick Buildings, Melcombe Regis, Dorset with her daughter Margaret and two female servants.
