Biography

Partner and probably brother of Charles Moore (q.v.), of Moore Brothers (q.v.), merchants of Barbados and Liverpool. As well as the awards in which he was directly interested, Henry Moore was signatory at the National Debt Office as attorney for multiple claims in Barbados.

  1. Born in Ireland c. 1800. Married Margaret Ann Welch in 1823 in St Michael, Barbados. Children baptised in St Michael: Mary Elizabeth (1824), Arthur (1827), Sarah Jane Robinson (1828), John (1829), Henry O'Hara (1833), Hill Charley (1835). Widower of Liverpool when he married Mary Judith Jackson in Hempstead, Gloucestershire in 1837. Of Huckisson Street, Liverpool, at the baptism of his children Margaret Ann (1837), Emma (1840) and Frances Cartwright (1841). At 32 Huskisson Street in the census of 1841, age 35, merchant, born Ireland, with wife Mary age 25, John age 10, Hugh age 7, Hill age 6, Margaret age 3 and Emma age 2. Further children baptised in Liverpool while living at Abercromby Square: William Jackson (1844) and Martha Louisa (1849). At 4 Abercromby Square, Liverpool, in 1851, 'General Merchant', age 51, with his wife age 41, born Barbados, seven of his children, a governess, one male servant and four female servants.

  2. Henry Moore & Co. advertised for passengers in the "first-class fast-sailing ship 'Loodianah', of 744 tons, due to sail from Liverpool to Calcutta in December 1850.
