Rev. John Holloway Duke, Rural Dean of Essequibo, owner of enslaved persons in Barbados, some inherited from his mother Elizabeth Ann née Holloway and some in right of his wife Anna Maria née Storey (q.v.).
John H. Duke registered 22 enslaved persons in 1829 in Barbados as executor of his late mother Elizabeth Ann Duke. It's likely that this was the Elizabeth Ann Holloway who married William Duke in St Michael, Barbados, 06/10/1803.
John Holloway Duke married Anna Maria Storey at Christ Church, Barbados, 19/04/1827. At least two children were born to this couple: Benjamin Thomas (baptised 25/06/1829 at St Michael, Barbados) and Wilhelmina (baptised 11/07/1831 at Christ Church, Barbados). Later censuses reveal two more: Mary A., born in Essequibo c. 1838 and Eliza H., born c. 1839. Another daughter, Emma, married Rev. Joseph Thorlby of Helpingham in Froxfield on 18/04/1854.
Identified as Rural Dean of Essequibo in 1838.
His widow moved to Froxfield, Hampshire, England, with at least four of her children, where she died in 1881.
