Biography

Claimed compensation for ownership of enslaved persons on Jambou Vale in St Vincent as executor of her husband Aretas Akers II (q.v.). Mother of Aretas Akers III and sister-in-law of Edmund Flem[m]ing Akers (both q.v.). Daughter of the anti-slavery campaigner Rev. James Ramsay (1733-1789).

  1. Jane Ramsay married Aretas Akers in Camden, London, 19/03/1795. They had at least 7 children together.

  2. Named as an executor in the will of her husband which was proved 24/12/1816. He left her £200 immediately, his furniture etc., and two annuities, for £400 and £1000 per annum.

  3. Living at Burlington House, Tunbridge Wells, in the census of 1841, age 65, "Ind.[ependent Means]", with Anna Townsend, age 65, 1 male servant and 4 female servants.

  4. Death of Jane Akers, Q2 1842, Tonbridge, Kent.
