Biography

Awarded the compensation for the enslaved people on two estates in British Guiana, almost certainly William McInroy or M'Inroy of The Burn, son of James M'Inroy of Lude (q.v. under James McInroy), and brother of James Patrick McInroy (q.v.).

  1. 'Major William M'Inroy of The Burn is the second son of the late James M'Inroy of Lude by Elizabeth, daughter of William Moore of St Eustatia, born 1804, married, in 1839, Harriet Barbara, daughter of Elias Isaac of Boughton Worcestershire, was educated at Glasgow and Edinburgh, was formerly a Major in the Army, and late Lieutenant-Colonel Kincardineshire Rifle Vounteers. Is a J.P for and Vice-Lieutenant and Convener of the county of Kincardine. Heir presumptive his brother, James Patrick M'Inroy of Lude born 1799 married 1822 Margaret Seton, daughter of David Lillie of Glasgow, and has issue.'

  2. In 1841 William McInroy aged 35 Army H[alf] P[ay] and Harriet aged 25 were living at Burn House, Fettercairn.  1871 William McInroy and Harriet Barbara were again shown living at The Burn House, Fettercairn, Kincardineshire.

  3. William M'Inroy of Shierglass appears as a proprietor of land in the Valuation Roll for Perth Weem District, Parish of Dull between 1857 and 1885: then Lieutenant Colonel William McInroy is shown between 1886 and 1890, and for Blair Atholl 1891 and 1895, then William McInroy for Blair Atholl 1895-1899. James Patrick McInroy is shown as a tenant in a number of the earlier years.

  4. James M'Inroy of Lude, father of William McInroy and James Patrick McInroy, had left £172,913 at his death in 1825.
