T71/877: claim from Sir Henry Wm. Martin by his attorney Chas. J. Bernard (possibly Charles Jones Barnard?).
Henry Nelson Coleridge, Six Months in the West Indies, in 1825 (New York, 1826) p.268: 'At Green Castle, an estate of Sir Henry Martin's, there was a simple and ingenious plan for diminishing the labour of negroes in carrying the bundles of cane up the acclivity on which the mill is built.' This referred to a mechanised conveyor belt.
