T71/897: numerous absentee and rentier counterclaims were made against ownership of 3 enslaved persons:  eg. counterclaim from W.H. Layton, of North End Villa, Fulham, who was also beneficially interested along with his wife under a settlement of 08/01/1772 in one fourth part of 3 enslaved persons; counterclaim from Wm Burley, of Lincolns Inn, Richard Marriott, of Abbotts Hall. Essex, and H.E. Belville, of  5th Dragoon guards, who were all trustees under a deed of settlement of 26/07/1825; counterclaim also from George Sperling, of Halstead, Essex, who was beneficially interested under the above settlement of 26/07/1825; counterclaim also from Charles Walton, of Haverhill, Essex, and Mary Ann (his wife), who were beneficially interested under a settlement of 08/01/1772 in one fourth of one enslaved person.   

2135B: £97 1s 11d was awarded to this group, 02/11/1840.

T71/561 p. 107: Thomas Marshall registered 39 enslaved persons.
