William Henry Layton

Husband of Frances Elizabeth Stephens, co-heiress of her father Ellis Anderson Stephens (q.v), and one of three (possibly four) husbands of Stephens' daughters who appear as remaindermen in a series of awards in Barbados, the largest concerning the Byde Mill estate for which an agent, Joseph Warner Bromley, received the compensation on behalf of all the trustees involved.

1. William Henry Layton, eldest son of Rev. T. Layton of Chigwell, married Frances Elizabeth, second daughter of Ellys [sic] Anderson Stephens of Bower Hall Essex 01/02/1817. They had six children born in Steeple Bumpstead, Essex: Ellys Anderson Stephens (1817), Frederic Champion (1819), Henry Bendysh (1821), George Richard (1824), Thomas Champion (1826) and Mary Louisa (1828). In the census of 1841 with her parents-in-law, wife and children at Bower Hall, Steeple Bumpstead.

2. Death, "May 29. (while on a visit to his son, Essex), at Zaleski, Vinton County, Ohio, U.S., William Henry Layton, Esq., B.A., and J.P., for the counties of Essex and Suffolk, in the 74th year of his age."
