3601B: litigated claim for one enslaved person by Wm Layton, of Fulham etc.; Wm Burley, of Lincolns Inn (T71/1593 p. 368 10/01/1837: shows Wm Burley, of Haverhill, Suffolk); Rich Marriott, of Abbots Hall, Essex; and Hy Edward Beville [?], of Dran. Gardens, all of whom were trustees under a settlement of 26/07/1825.
Kathleen Mary Butler, The Economics of Emancipation: Jamaica and Barbados 1823-1843 (Chapel Hill and London, University of North Carolina Press, 1995) p. 83: Higginson's inventory of 1835 put a value of £77,750 on the estates, including £17,485 for the services of 867 apprentices. The Rowans estate was valued at £7,678, versus the £11,365 paid by JH in 1829.
