Awarded the compensation for 12 claims in Barbados as executor of John Higginson (q.v.). Deane himelf appears to have spent much of his life in Barbados and no trace of his death in Britain has yet been discovered.
Richard Deane appears as the attorney of William Barton, George Irlam and John Higginson in Essequebo [sic] in 1808.
Deane appears in the Slave Compensation records mainly as the executor of John Higginson, the last of the original partners in Barton, Irlam and Higginson, who died in 1834.
Barton, Irlam Higginson (q.v.) failed in 1847, when the partners were Richard Deane and Jonathan Higginson, John Higginson's son. In 1851 the Official Assignee anounced a dividend of 20s (sic) in the pound. The bankruptcy was still running in 1870, and as late as 1895 the Official Receiver was negotiating with Jonathan Higginson's widow Charlotte over stock of the North-Eastern Railway Co.; the accounts of the Assignees were last reported audited in 1897.
