In his will dated 1777 (sworn in Jamaica that same year and proved in London in 1783), Sir Simon Clarke 7th bart. stipulated that his mortgage on a moity of Warwick Castle be immediately foreclosed, the estate put up for sale to the highest and best bidder, and that his executors buy the estate for the benefit of his sons Sir Philip Haughton Clarke 8th bart. and Sir Simon Haughton Clarke 9th bart. His nephews Simon Fleming Begg and John Begg and his niece Mary Begg were to be given legacies on the condition that they relinquish all claim to the estate as a result of the wills of their late grandfather Sir Simon Clarke and their late mother Ann Clarke.
