Notes

Higman puts two estates together - Hampstead and Retreat. They were both located in the upper Martha Brae River and were owned by John H. Deffell at emancipation. Hampstead had a cattle mill and Retreat had a water mill.

McG. one-third of the Retreat sugar plantation in Trelawny, also one-third of Hampstead and one-third of slaves, all formerly belonging to Jane Stone, decd.
