Times 27/03/1832: letter from John H. Deffell to the editor, challenging mortality figures on Saltspring estate given by the Anti-slavery Reporter and defending W.S. Grignon (and implicitly himself as proprietor).

Times 03/04/1832 p. 1: second letter from John H. Deffell, referrring to 'the charges against my absent friend....It is neither my intention nor my wish to  enter into a controversy with Mr Pringle on the question of negro slavery'.

Times 03/12/1856 p. 4: advertisement shows the sale pursuant to order in Chancery in 'Scott v Deffell' of Swansea Brown Hall and Brown's Town in St John, and Hayes Pen and Brown's Pasture in St Dorothy. Shows death on or around 28/10/1848.
