William Bulkeley was listed as a landowner in 1638. The plantation remained in the hands of the Bulkeley family until 1724 when Mary, daughter and heir of William Bulkeley married John Gould of Essex, England.

In 1752 John Gould of Devonshire Street, London, England, eldest son and heir of John Gould deceased, late of Essex, England, took action to recover the Barbados plantation (of 401 acres, 3 dwelling houses, 3 mills, and a boiling house).

1782 Revision of terms of lease made in 1779. John Gould of Horsham Park, Sussex, England, leased the plantation to Simon Lee, mariner, & Henry Trotman the younger, planter of Barbados for £500 a year. As a result of the great damage caused by the hurricane of 1780 the terms of the lease were changed: Lee & Trotman to repair buildings but the annual rental was reduced to £400. There were 136 enslaved, with the highest valued male slave £80, female £55, boys & girls £50. The total value of the enslaved was £3,700.

23 and 24 April 1805: (1) Henrietta Steorgin [= Sleorgin] of Henly, Suffolk, widow (2) Simon Lee of Lyme, Dorset (3) Thomas Clarke Trotman of Island of Barbados, West Indies, esq. Lease and release of plantation called Bulkeley's, Barbados, for use of (1) for term of 2000 years then to the use of (3) for ever. Consideration: Further instalment of £20,000 purchase money plus interest as per articles of agreement.

By 1811, Thomas Clarke Trotman was the owner. The Trotman family continued to own the plantation until the 1860s.

Return of Henry Trotman, Attorney, the property of Thomas Clarke Trotman. Note that this was a return for both Bulkeleys and Carmichaels. The return shows that the numbers of enslaved had been 339. Since 1820 there were 25 births and a decrease of 41. The total for 1820 was thus 364. The decreases in the numbers of enslaved included 31 deaths, 9 ‘given up to H. Trotman’ and 1 who was absent but also given up to H. Trotman.
