In 1772 Thomas Tipping appears to have been the owner of what was to become known as Gregg or Gregg’s Farm.(200 acres).

By 1778 Gregg's Farm was mortgaged to Joseph Paice: according to Hughes-Queree the mortgage was held by Anthony Gregg of St. James and his wife Elizabeth Mary Gregg formerly Elizabeth Mary Frewin, widow and before that Elizabeth Mary Maverick, spinster, to Joseph Paice. When Gregg bought the plantation he assumed the debt to Paice. By this point, it was 200 acres and there were 70 enslaved.
