Biography

Awarded a part-share in the compensation for ownership of enslaved persons on Virgin Valley estate in Clarendon, Jamaica, as one of the representatives of Charles Gordon Gray (q.v.), through his wife Frs. Mercer nee Gray (q.v.). Correspondent of the Commissioners in 1835 concerning another claim, on another Gray family estate, the Industry estate in St James, when he was shown as of 24 Addington Place, Ramsgate Kent.

Ibid p. 350: letter, dated 19/11/1835, stating: 'I am directed to acquaint you that it is impossible from the nature of the busines of the office to keep up a correspondence with Parties as to their individual claims'. Has sent a copy of the rules 'as you state that you are unacquainted with the Rules and Orders of the Commission'.
