Biography

Brother and heir of Peter Langford Brooke (q.v.), and claimant for compensation as the owner of Laroche's estate in Antigua: the money was awarded to his brother and other trustees (including Thos D. Broughton, q.v.) of Thomas' marriage settlement with Eliza Brooke (née Clough, q.v.). Peter and Thomas Langford Brooke were the children of Thomas Langford Brooke (1769-1815) and Maria Broughton (1768-1841): Thomas Langford Brooke the younger's wife Eliza Clough was his cousin, the daughter of John William Clough and Eliza[beth] Broughton. Peter Brooke of Mere, the brothers' grandfather, had married Elizabeth, the daughter and heiress of Jonas Langford of Antigua.

  1. Will of Thomas Langford Brooke of [New Hall in the County of Chester Esq. but now residing at] Bath Somerset proved 21/03/1848. In the will he rehearsed the settlement on his marriage 'with my present wife' Eliza which had secured her jointure on Laroches estate in Antigua and bequeathed the estate subject to the obligations of the settlement to his sons Frederick Langford Brooke and Charles Langford Brooke. He explained that his eldest son (also Thomas Langford Brooke) had been amply provided for under the will of Peter Langford Brooke. Thomas John Langford Brooke, the son, left £35,000 in 1865.
