Biography

Grandson of Jonas Langford of Antigua (q.v.) and heir after the death of his elder brother Peter as a child in 1766: the property in turn passed to his younger brother Thomas Langford Brooke the elder.

  1. Will of Jonas Langford Brooke of Mere Cheshire proved 14/01/1785. Under the will he deferred to the entail of his grandfather's property. He left £1000 each to his mother and siblings, increased for his sisters to £3000 each if he died without a son who reached 21, and 500 guineas to his friend the Rev. [John] Parkinson of Magdalen College Oxford.

  1. PROB 11/1125/136; his legatee at Magdalen College Oxford is identifiable from Oxford Alumni as the Rev. John Parkinson who was bursar in 1787 and died in 1840 having been rector of Brocklesby in Lincolnshire for more than 50 years.
