Previous owner of Adams Castle in Barbados, the compensation for which was paid to Anne St John Maxwell Adams (q.v.) as executrix of Thomas M[axwell] Adams; she is also given in the Register of Claims as executrix of Jas. M. Maxwell, possibly in error.
Thomas Maxwell Adams, shown in Burke's as the second son of William [sic] Adams of Barbados, m. 4 July 1792 Anne St John Trefusis (sister of Lord Clinton). In fact, the will of Thomas Maxwell Adams of St Davids Exeter proved in 1806 identifies his father as Thomas Maxwell Adams.

The Thomas Maxwell Adams son of Thomas of Barbados who matriculated Merton Oxford 13/0/1764 aged 19 must have been the father of the Thomas Maxwell Adams of this entry.
The will of Thomas Maxwell Adams [now of Duryards Lodge in the parish] of St Davids, Exeter Devon proved 09/01/1807 also identifies him as the husband of Anne St John Maxwell Adams the claimant. The Mrs Adams, the relict [widow] of Thomas Maxwell Adams of the Island of Barbados who died at her house in Brompton Row (England) 27/03/1812, was the widow of the older Thomas Maxwell Adams and the mother of the Thomas Maxwell Adams of this claim (who predeceased her).
