Young pursued unsuccessfully a number of claims for estates owned by his grandfather, Sir William Young, 2nd Bart. (Dec 1749-10/12/1815), MP for St Mawes (1784–1806) and Buckingham (1806-1807) and Governor of Tobago (1807-1815).
Sir William Young, 2nd Bart. was the son of Sir William Young, 1st Bart. (1724/5–1788), Governor of Dominica, and his second wife, Elizabeth (1729–1801), the only child of Brook Taylor, the mathematician.
William Lawrence Young was baptised 20/10/1806 at Sidmouth in Devon, son of William Lawrence Young and Anna Louisa his wife. He married Caroline Norris, fifth daughter of John Norris Esquire of Huyhenden House, Buckinghamshire, in March 1832. In 1833, he was "of Marlow Park, Buckingham". In the 1841 census he was at North Dean farm, Hughenden, age 34, of independent means, with his wife and children Elizabeth Sophia (age 7), George John (age 6), Caroline Louisa (age 4) and Charles Lawrence (age 1 1/2). He died in Hughenden House, Buckinghamshire, 27/06/1842, and was succeeded by his eldest son William Norris Young.

T71/1592 pp. 272-273 letter to John Ramey Esq, High Wycombe re 'papers in the nature of counterclaims on the part of Mr Young', and details of the two estates in St Vincent to which it appears probable that Mr Young's counterclaims apply.
