Biography

The trustees (Vans Hathorn and Sir John Sinclair of Ulbster, both q.v.) of the marriage settlement of Hon. Archibald MacDonald and Jane (q.v.) his wife were awarded a part-share of the compensation for Argyle, Calder and Calder Ridge estates in St Vincent as co-trustees.

  1. Jane Campbell married the Hon. Archibald Macdonald, 3rd son of Lord Macdonald of Slate 29/10/1802, and died 1860. Her younger sister Barbara was the first wife of the Prince de Polignac (q.v.). Both were daughters of Duncan Campbell of Ardneave, Argyllshire, Scotland.

  2. Hon. Archibald MacDonald was a founding member of Arthur's, the first West End members' (as opposed to proprietary) club in 1811, the building for which is now the Carlton Club at 69-70 St James's Street. He was an Honorary Manager on the London Board of Management of the North British Insurance Co. (founded in 1809) in 1837.

  4. Letters of administration of the estate of the Hon. Archibald Macdonald, formerly of Connaught Place Edgware Road but lately of 9 Belgrave Place Brighton who died 05/02/1861, granted 12/08/1861, effects under £5000.
