Biography

French ultraroyalist, Bourbon ambassador to London in 1823 and President of the Council of Charles X in 1829, and husband of Barbara Campbell (1788-1819), daughter of Duncan Campbell of Ardn[e]ave; the compensation for the Argyle and Calder Ridge estates on St Vincent  was paid to the trustees of the marriage settlements of Barbara Campbell and her sister, Jane, wife of Archibald MacDonald (q.v.).

  1. Prince de Polignac married first Barbara Campbell on July 6 1816, the second daughter of Duncan Campbell of Ardneave [= Ardnave], Argyllshire, Scotland. Barbara Campbell  died 23/05/1819. Her elder sister and co-heiress Jane Campbell married the Hon. Archibald Macdonald, 3rd son of Lord Macdonald of Slate 29/10/1802, and died 1860.
