1780 - 1848
Col. James Octavius Lee Harvey, awarded the compensation for the Lower Conference estate in Grenada with his wife Margaret Harvey (q.v.) as owners-in-fee. He was the subject of a portrait by Henry Raeburn, now in the Louvre; his life-dates of c.1780-1848 are taken from descriptions of this painting.
Col. James Octavius Lee married Margaret Harvey, daughter of John Harvey of Castle Semple, in 1816, whereupon Lee changed his name by the addition of Harvey.
Will of Lieutenant Colonel James Harvey of Lochwinnoch Renfrewshire proved 04/06/1849 (although it is indexed as such, the document, which shows him 'residing at Castlesemple' is a joint deed with his wife Margaret Harvey of Castlesemple conveying estates at Mouswald Dumfriesshire to their eldest son John Rae Lee Harvey and his heirs with remainder to their second son James Octavius Lee Harvey and then to their daughter Catharine).
James Octavius Lee Harvey was painted by Henry Raeburn; the image is © RMN, Musée du Louvre / Herve Lewandowski.
