The Hurd of Hurd v. Law was Samuel Proudfoot Hurd, son of Capt. Thomas Hurd (q.v.) and Elizabeth Hurd, and godson of Samuel Proudfoot (q.v.). Samuel Proudfoot Hurd has an entry in the Dictionary of Canadian Biography as 'office holder, politician and militia officer.'
