Thomas Begg married Agnes Pearson 20/09/1840 in Gorbals, Glasgow (both were "of this parish"). Thomas Begg, age 35, "Capt Mercht. Serv.", was living at 35 Duncan Terrace, Islington, with [blank] Begg, age 35, and two female servants. Julia Hamilton Begg, daughter of Thomas Begg and Agnes Pearson of 32 Duncan Terrace, Islington, was born 11/11/1847 and baptised 02/01/1848 at Islington Presbyterian Church. In 1851, Thomas Begg, age 40, West India merchant, born West Indies, was living at 32 Duncan Terrace, Islington, with his wife Agnes age 40, born Scotland, daughter Julia H., age 3, born Islington, a butler, three female servants and John Archibald Louinett, a visitor, minister's son, age 4. Thomas has not been located in the censuses of 1861 or 1871. In 1861, Julia H. Begg was a boarder at a school in Powis Square, Brighton while Agnes was living with the family of her brother Adam Pearson in Blythswood, Glasgow. In 1871 both were living with Agnes's brother-in-law Archibald G. Kidston in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire. Thomas Begg, age 71, was an inmate at Mavis Bank Lunatic Asylum in 1881, age 71, born Grenada, late West India Merchant (while Agnes and Julia were living at 17 Dean Terrace, Edinburgh with two female servants).
Her Majesty has further been pleased to appoint Thomas Begg, Esquire, to be a Member of the Legislative Council of the Island of Trinidad, and Andrew Munro, William McEwen, Henry Berkeley, and George Brooks Van Buren, Esquires, to be Members of the Legislative Council of the Island of Grenada.
Agnes Begg, married to Thomas Begg, West India merchant (retired) died 26/05/1881 at 17 Dean Terrace, Edinburgh, age 76. Her death certificate gives her as the daughter of John Pearson, Estate Factor, deceased, and Hamilton Pearson nee Campbell, deceased. Thomas Begg, West India merchant (retired), died 29/01/1883 age 72 at 17 Dean Terrace, Edinburgh, widower of Agnes Pearson, son of Thomas Begg, West India merchant, deceased, and Maria Julia Begg nee Fauchat, deceased. The informant was his daughter Julia H. Begg.
Thomas Begg was buried in 1883 in Dean Cemetery, age 72. Recorded on the same monument were Agnes Pearson who died in 1881 age 77, his son-in-law George Andrew who died in 1893 age 50, grand-daughter Nancy Pearson Andrew who died in 1909 age 22 and daughter Julia Hamilton Begg nee Pearson who died in 1935 age 87.
