Biography

Resident clergyman and slave-owner in Jamaica, later dying in London in 1860. His widow Sophia Eliza Panton 'formerly of Jamaica' died at East Lodge [Belmont] Brighton in 1863 leaving £3000.

Archdeacon of Surrey, Jamaica, 1848-60. R. of St Andrew's, 1858. Married, July 4, 1824, Sophia Elizabeth, dau. of David Morrieson (of the H.E.I.C.S.), of Edinburgh. Died Aug. 30, 1860.   3. Administration of the Will of Rev. Richard Panton Archdeacon of Surry [sic] in Jamaica late of 36 York Street Marylebone who died at 36 York Street 30/08/1860 granted 29/09/1860 to Sophia Eliza Panton of Brighton the widow, effects in England under £100.
