Biography

Awarded the compensation for the enslaved people on Mount Moses estate in St Andrew Jamaica as assignee, with Samuel Murphy.

  1. The estate was shown against Edward Marshall in 1812, the Rev. Edward Marshall in 1818 and 1822, Elizabeth Marshall in 1825, 1832, 1833 and 1838. Rev. Edward Marshall was born Exeter 1769, Eton and King's Cambridge, ordained 1815. 'Went to the West Indies; R[ector] of Kingston, Jamaica.'

  2. Tentatively identified as Richard Collins of East Southernhay Exeter, or his son Richard Collins junior. Marriage at Madras of Frances, twin dau. of late Richard Collins Jun Esq and grand-daughter of late Richard Collins Esq. of East Southernhay, Exeter, Devon. In 1841 Richard Collins of Southernhay aged 90 born in parish was living at Southernhay Holy Trinity with Lucy, Frances and Marianne aged between 25 and 35, John aged 35 and possibly another son whose name is illegible. Will of Richard Collins of Holy Trinity Exeter Devon proved 19/11/1847.
