Biography

Partner with Thomas Lee (q.v.) in Thomas Lee, Haynes and Company of Barbados and Liverpool.

  1. Burial of Nicholas Russell Garner aged 71 of Hart Street 04/02/1837 St George's Bloomsbury. Will of Nicholas Russell Garner of Saint Sidwell Exeter Devon proved 06/03/1837. Under his will (made in 1826) he left the interest on £7000 to his wife Elizabeth Ann for her life, and the rest of his estate including real estate in Barbados in trust for his sons Jonathan and Nicholas, and his daughter Ann. His trustees and executors were his widow, his brother-in-law John Henry Nurse (q.v.), his nephew Thomas Russell Bascom and his relation Joshua Bushell Nurse (q.v.). In a codicil dated 1830 he urged his executors to continue his partnership with Thomas Lee as long as it was advantageous.

  2. His second son Nicholas was baptised 11/12/1800 in St Philip, Barbados. Nicholas Garner Esquire, late of the island of Barbados, died 10/03/1839 "at his residence, near Liverpool." Nicholas Garner was buried 14/03/1839 at Liscard, Cheshire, age 38.

  3. His son Jonathan Garner MD died 13/01/1870 at 40 Bathwick Street, Bath leaving £70,000. In 1851 he had been at 2 Bladud Buildings Bath aged 56 born Barbados MD not practising. Arthur Garner, an early theatrical impresario in Australia and partner from 1881 or 1882 in 'The Triumvirate' or 'The Trio' of Williamson, Garner and Musgrove (builders of the Princess's Theatre in Melbourne) is shown in biographical sources as the son of Jonathan Garner MD of Bath and hence would have been Nicholas Russell Garner's grandson.
