Biography

Captain Alexander Ellice, MP for Harwich 1837-1841 and Comptroller of the Coastguard, and brother of Edward Ellice (q.v.). Alexander Ellice gave consent for the 1/6th of the compensation on the Morant estate in St Thomas-in-the-East payable to him to be paid instead to A[nthony] R[ichard] Blake. The background to both his claim and his renunciation of the compensation is unknown at present.

  1. Married 1826 Lucy Frances Lock, daughter of Charles Lock, British consul-general at Naples. Death of Alexander Ellice, Controller-General of the Coast Guard, at the house of his brother Edward Ellice 08/10/1853.

  2. Their daughter, Katherine Frederica married Francis Fortescue, army officer and son of naval Commander Henry Fortescue and Caroline Russell, 16 June 1855. Katherine died 13 April 1884.
