Widow of Patrick Gray, awarded the bulk of the compensation for the enslaved people on Friendship estate in Hanover Jamaica. The couple married in Jamaica in 1782 when her maiden name was given as McKillop.
'At the house of Wm Clark, Hackney, London, death of Sarah Gray, widow of Patrick Gray Esq. of Foundship [sic] Estate Jamaica after a protracted and severe illness, which she bore with Christian resignation, in the 84th year of her age.' William Clark[e] (q.v.) was awarded compensation for more enslaved people on the Friendship estate in Hanover.
Will of Sarah Gray widow of Hackney [made in 1837] proved 10/06/1841. In the will she left personal effects to Mary Clark, the daughter of William Clark 'now or lately commander of the ship Carshalton Park in the Jamaica trade' and Mary Bucknor his wife. She left her property in Jamaica in trust to John Watson of Brighton and Robert Hawthorn of Lime Street to sell for the benefit of Elizabeth Gray the daughter of Thomas Joseph Gray of Eastham estate in St James and to James, Charles and Catherine Clark, children of William Clark. Her residuary legatee was Catherine Clark.
