Agnes Allan Allan (née Kirkwood)

Claimed unsuccessfully for part of the compensation for Mt Airy in St Andrew, Jamaica for dower as widow of James Allan Allan. The claim was originally made by Alex Forbes of St Andrew as trustee and executor of James A. Allan dec[ease]d, and the compensation was paid to Benjamin Joseph Trueman Nightingale, who counterclaimed as mortgagee-in-fee and judgement creditor.

1. Married James Allan in Paisley, Scotland, in 1809. Three children baptised in Cambuslang (1810, 1811, 1815) and three in Galston (1818, 1821, 1825). Will of James Allan Allan of Galston Ayrshire proved 12/08/1834.

T71/865 St Andrew 208 (part). Letter T71/1607 23/10/1835 from Agnes A. Allan, Galstone [sic], Ayrshire, Scotland: claim from Forbes, 'apptd by my late husband and to whom I gave my power of attorney to protect me as a widow, has ordered his man of business to put in a claim there in my favour, for my rights of dowry in the compensation money, and hopes I have put one in, in England.'
