Biography

Resident attorney and slave-owner in Jamaica.

  1. John Cleghorn was suspended as militia captain by Sir Willoughby Cotton (Commander of the Forces) in 1832, after Cleghorn had set fire to the slave village on the Adelphi estate and summarily executed two enslaved people from the Carlton estate, in the aftermath of the Baptist War.
