Surgeon, awarded compensation for ownership of enslaved persons on Tripoli estate, St Ann’s, Jamaica, in right of his wife Louisa Barnett nee Louisa Senior Lawrence (q.v.), and on Moore Park estate, Trelawny, as ‘administrator of the estate and effects of John Moore decd. slaves in possession of Henty Coultman as lessee of the late John Moore'.
Born in Yoxford, Suffolk, c. 1801. Married Louisa Senior Lawrence at St James 10/06/1825. She was born in St. Ann’s, Jamaica. In his compensation claim he gives his address as 17 Dorset Place, Dorset Square, Marylebone, but a Samuel Boyd Barnett is also listed as a health officer in Dry Harbour, St Ann’s, Jamaica, in 1839.
In the censuses for England 1841-1871 in London, living in a lodging house on Manchester Street, Marylebone (1841), St John’s Place, Marylebone (1851), 3 Greville Place (1861) and 2 Clarendon Gardens, Paddington (1872, the same address as was listed on his burial record, 27/05/1872). In each case, he was living with his wife Louisa who was born c. 1808 in St Ann’s, Jamaica. No children were listed on the censuses. His occupation in the 1861 census was “F.R.C. Surgeons London J.P of the [?] local Rank of Major in Army [?]” but other references give only “Surgeon” or “Physician”.
Samuel Boyd Barnett was buried at Kensal Green Cemetery, London, 27/05/1872 age 72.
