Born c. 1799 in Ireland. Records of his parentage are conflicting. According to the 'Find a grave' website, he was the son of Lyndon Evelyn (d. 1839) and his wife Elizabeth nee Pimlott. This Lyndon Evelyn was MP for Wigtown Burghs 1809-1812, Dundalk 1813-18 and St Ives 1820-6 but appears to have had only one child, Elizabeth, at the time of his death in 1839. The 'Find a grave' website states he had two brothers, Henry Francis Evelyn (1790-1809) and Frederick James Evelyn (1797-1837).
Lyndon Howard Evelyn was collector of customs in Savanna-la-Mar when he married Alice Samuda at Lund, Westmoreland, 03/04/1821.
Ten children baptised in Hanover and Westmoreland, Jamaica: Frederick (1824), Elizabeth Higginson (1825), Emma (1826), Webber Samuels (1827), Julia and William Hylton (both 1831), Caroline Owen, Alice Chambers, Frederick William and Howard (all 1837).
Living in England from at least 1861. In the census of 1861 at 71 Oakley Square, St Pancras, age 62, 'Superan collector customs', born Ireland, with his wife Alice and one female servant. At Enmore Road, Croydon, in 1871, with his wife, two granddaughters and a female servant (the granddaughters were Elizabeth Caird, age 11, born in Jamaica and Alice Caird, age 10, born in the United States). At 11 Vicarage Park, Plumstead, Surrey, in the census of 1881, with granddaughters Elizabeth and Henrietta Caird and one female servant.
The will of Lyndon Howard Evelyn late of 11 Vicarage Park, Gentleman, who died 09/09/1881 at 11 Vicarage Park was proved by Thomas Miller Rickman of 8 Montague Street, Russell Square, Middlesex, Gentleman, the executor. Personal estate £153 6s 11d.
