John Pierce Tayler, born 24/11/1791 and baptised 02/04/1810 at Keynsham estate (then in St Elizabeth, Jamaica). Son of Thomas Weir Tayler, owner of Auchenbeddie, and Ann Pierce, "a free mulatto". A slave-owner in his own right by 1817, he signed the slave registers by mark. Inherited £50 sterling in the will of his father, who died c. 1829. Married Henrietta Mure, a free person of colour, in St Elizabeth, 05/12/1830.
