1788 - 1870
Awarded the compensation for a number of the enslaved people on Rosemount in St James Jamaica as owner-in-fee. Compensation for the remainder of the enslaved people on the estate was paid to Annie Roper's sister Sarah Ann Findlater (q.v.) under two further awards.
Baptised 27/06/1788 in Hanover, Jamaica, daughter of James and Margaret Ann Findlater. In 1841 Annie Roper aged 50 'Ind' was living with Sarah Findlater 'Ind.' aged 60 and a number of younger Ropers, Margaret, William and Findlater (almost certainly Annie Roper's children) at Upper Montague Street, London. In 1851 Annie Roper aged 58 born Jamaica 'Landed proprietor' and two of her children (Margaret aged 36 born Ireland and Findlater Roper aged 30, barrister not practising born Jamaica) were living at Seymour Street Walcot in Bath with Annie Roper's sister Sarah Findlater, aged 68 'landed proprietor' also born Jamaica. The will of Sarah Ann Findlater formerly of the parish of St James in Jamaica and late of 13 Charles Street Bath spinster who died 29/1/1859 was proved 8/3/1859 by her niece Margaret Roper, effects under £100. The death of an Annie Roper, almost certainly this one, was registered aged 78 Q2 1870 at Bath.
Probably the daughter of Alexander James Findlater, a magistrate or assistant judge in St James in 1808. Alexander James Findlater of the Island of Jamaica died in Little Stanhope Street, London in 1815.
Findlater Roper of Unity Valley Pen died in Jamaica in 14/10/1894, leaving £687 19s 7d resworn at 897 19s 7d.
