Christopher Daly

London customs official who was awarded the compensation for the Boosy Ridge estate in St Thomas-in-the-Vale Jamaica which belonged to his wife, the widow of a Jamaica slave-owner.   

1. Marriage of Christopher Daly of St Pancras and Frances M. Brown widow of this parish at St George Bloomsbury 12/07/1834.

2. In 1861 Christopher Daly aged 70 'superannuated Customs Officer' born Ireland was living at 3 Cambridge Place Kensington with wife Frances Maria, aged 71, born Jamaica. In 1851 the couple aged 61 and 62 respectively had been at 25 Sutherland Street  St Mary Newington, with Christopher Daly described as 'Clerk H.M. Customs' born Dublin Ireland.   

3. Will of Christopher Daly late of 3 Cambridge Place Victoria Road Kensington gentleman who died 17/11/1869 proved 03/12/1869 by the oath of Frances Jane Parker of 3 Cambridge Place widow the executrix, effects £1500. The death of Frances Maria Daly aged 82 was registered at Kensington Q3 1869: it is not clear who Frances Jane Parker was.

T71/855 St Thomas-in-the-Vale claim no. 106. Claim by Frances M. [?] Browne, St Thomas-in-the-Vale owner. Counterclaim from Christopher Daly 'husband of the claimant by marr[iag]e posterior to the claim made. He claims in her right the Settlement not affecting the compensation. ' 'Statement produced by which the right to the compensation appears vested in Chr Daly and adjudged accordingly'. NDO4/5 Christopher Daly esq.

Boosy Ridge was shown against Robert Brown in the Jamaica Almanac (1812 and 1816), against 'estate of Robert Brown' in the Jamaica Almanac (1823), against Frances M. Brown in the Jamaica Almanac (1824) and against F.M. Brown in the Jamaica Almanac (1833).
